In approaching the design of a project, there are some basic principles that are incorporated into the equation:

Listen, Listen, Listen
It is imperative to understand the real desires of my clients. Before coming to me, many have preconceived ideas as to what they want as far as style, room sizes and layout. I enjoy listening to these thoughts first, then building upon them by asking some specific questions to get a clearer understanding of what they truly need, what works within their everyday routines and what matches their innate comfort preferences. Often, they are taken by surprise by the proposed design with comments like “I never thought of that, yet it makes perfect sense”.
Strong Dialog for the Best Outcome
Clear, honest communication between my clients and the builder is critical. At the start of the project, I find out what the total budget and scheduling goals are. During the process, candor between all parties is needed to confirm that the quality of the work is meeting expectations. If not, changes can be made at the outset, when they will be most effective.
I find that remaining positive, upbeat and patient are essential to the overall success maintaining good communication and relationships with both clients and builders. Developing trust within all the players in the project team has always resulted in projects which everyone is proud of.
